Dopa Victoria Cross
A BOLD & CONFIDENT AESTHETIC MEETS CASUAL DINING
A new location for the Dopa brand within the Victoria Cross Metro station in North Sydney, fuses past and present through a design that harnesses the energy of the high traffic, fast-paced nature of the surroundings, whilst forms and proportions harken back to Japanese Edo period architecture.
Derived from the site’s location and central to the concept, the idea of a gateway saw us draw inspiration from the Torii, a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of a Shinto shrine. We emulated this through the use of colour, strong linear lines and repetition, as seen in the monochromatic merchandising display joinery and front counter. Reminiscent of food stalls located by train stations in Japan, the space has been designed to be bold, eye-catching and efficient.
Referencing sibling Dopa sites, gloss red bricks, rendered wall finishes, warm timber tones, varying tile formats and features such as banquette seating and neon lighting have been reimagined in their application and design. The signature Dopa colour palette of red and blue injects a sense of playfulness and familiarity to the space whilst attracting attention from commuters and locals alike. Cork wall panelling and red stained timber have been introduced to compliment the vibrant hues of the space and create a unique personality for the Dopa Victoria Cross location. Dual integrated self-service kiosks clad in deep blue mosaic tiles are eye-catching whilst offering convenience and contributing to the efficiency required by both staff and customers.
